Thomas and Anna Catherine Lauridsen


Thomas Lauridsen was born 23 April 1861 in Darum, Sogn, Denmark to Larst Rasmussen and Maren Sorenson. He immigrated in 1882 and made his way to Bear Lake where he met Anna Catherine Jensen. She was born 31 Aug 1866 in Bloomington, to Mads Jensen and Anna Lene Poulsen.  They married 31 Mar 1886 in Montpelier.

Thomas lived for awhile in New Jersey, worked at lumbering in Michigan and came to Bear Lake in 1882. Shortly after arriving in Bear Lake county he homesteaded land near Ovid. Interested in fraternal and civic activities Mr. Lauridsen served as a school board member in South Montpelier, was a member of the Montpelier City Council 1931-1933 and for 59 years was a member of local lodge No 18 IOOF. He held many offices in the local lodge and was a past Noble Grand.  He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Mr. Lauridsen witnessed and participated in the development and growth of this western county from the time the railroad was constructed into Montpelier.  He was active in stockmen’s organizations and founded the Lauridsen Land and Livestock Company, which had holdings in Bear Lake and Caribou counties.

"Where the Lane Turns" as interpreted by a company of home stars at the Gem Theatre last Friday evening provided a big hit. Mrs. Roy Jones as Mrs. Thornton appeared fine and Mary Lauridsen as Mrs. Thornton's maiden sister, created much laughter in her part.

Thomas Lauridsen was called as a juror for 1922.

Miss Mary Lauridsen and sister, Miss Annie Lauridsen left Tuesday morning for an extended tour of the Pacific coast. They plan to visit all points of interest between Mexico and Vancouver and will be absent from the city several weeks.

Mrs. Karl A Horne of Thornton, Idaho is spending a few weeks in this city visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lauridsen.

Anna Catherine Jensen Lauridsen died 22 Nov 1926 in Montpelier and was buried in the Montpelier Cemetery. Thomas died 28 Feb 1956 in Montpelier and was buried in the Montpelier Cemetery.
