William and Orissa Allred

William Moore Allred was born 24 Dec 1819 in Nashville Tennessee, the son of Isaac and Mary (Calvert). His family was very religious and belonged to the Presbyterian Church. William first heard of the Mormons in 1831 when he heard Hyrum Smith and John Murdock preach. He was baptized in the Salt River along with his parents. He met Joseph Smith at Zion's Camp in 1834. His family moved to Nauvoo in 1840 and William started working with the first load of stone for the Temple.
He married Orissa Angela Bates 9 Jan 1842 in her home in Nauvoo with Joseph Smith as a witness. He had met and married his second wife, Martha Jane Martindale also in Nauvoo on 4 July 1856. Martha was born 21 Feb 1837 in Greens Fork, Indiana, the daughter of William Addington Martindale and Mahala Stigelman. The family moved to Salt Lake in 1851, later in 1855 moving to Grantsville. Martha Jane died in Nov 1860 after the birth of their second child.
William and his family moved to St Charles in
May 1864 and built one of the first houses there. Orissa died 29 Jan 1878
and was buried in the St Charles Cemetery. William died in Fairview
Wyoming 8 June 1901 but was buried in the St Charles Cemetery.
