Frederick Henry and Emma Evans

By Helen E Hymas, from History of Bear Lake Pioneers

Henry Evans came to Thomas Fork Valley in the spring of 1877 with his father-in-law, Grandison Raymond for the purpose of finding a summer range for a large herd of cattle.  In 1878 his wife, Emma came with her three small children.

These people were well trained for the arduous task of pioneering.  Emma was born at Winter Quarters (now Council Bluffs) Iowa, starting west with her parents at the age of two weeks.  Henry had worked as a guide and teamster transporting LDS converts from Omaha, Nebraska, to the Salt Lake Valley and other immigrants on their way to California and Oregon.

Frederick Henry Evans was born 2 Aug 1842 in Cardiff Wales and immigrated to the United States in 1853.  He lived in Kaysville Utah for 24 years before coming to Bear Lake. Henry died 12 Feb 1910 in Raymond and was buried in the Montpelier Cemetery. He married Emma Raymond in 1870, who was born 23 May 1852, the daughter of Grandison Raymond and Cecilia Hall. She died 10 Mar 1928 in Raymond and was buried in the Montpelier Cemetery.
