RAYMOND WOMAN DIES
The people of Raymond were shocked last Saturday noon to learn that Emma Evans, an old time and highly respected resident had suddenly passed away, heart failure being the direct cause of her death. Although she had been ailing for several years, she had been able to be around the house until the moment before she was stricken.
Emma Evans was the daughter of Grandison and Celia Raymond, and was born May 23, 1852 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She came to Utah the same year with her parents, and settled in Kaysville, where she resided until she was married to Henry Evans i 1871.
In 1877 they came to Thomas Fork valley and have resided there practically all their lives. They helped to build up the community and made many friends by their generous hospitality. Seven children were born to them, six of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Alice Dimick of Montpelier; Fred C, J Alvin, Asa C, Andy L and Max Evans all of Raymond Idaho. She is alos survived by 26 grandchildren and 10 great grand-children and four sisters. Mrs. S W Hart of Raymond, Mrs. Ziff of Boise Idaho, Mrs. Joseph Openshaw of Kaysville Utah, and Mrs. G H Hall of Ogden.
She was a true friend and a most devoted mother, and took her greatest joy with her children and grandchildren, by whom she was dearly loved, because of her ability to be a companion to them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
During the last few years two of her sons were
bereft of a wife and left with motherless children and she has very tenderly
cared for both families, doing her best to take a mother's place. Her home was
always open to the unfortunate and those in need of a meal or a bed were always
welcome at her home. She has been a widow for eighteen years, but has been
fortunate in having all of her sons near her and scarcely a day passed that she
did not enjoy a visit from them. Her son Max has made his home with her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, in the Raymond chapel. Bro. W. A
Hart presiding. Prayer was offered by Bishop S. W. Hart. Appropriate music was
furnished by a male quartette. A vocal duet by Miss Cecilia Teuscher and Miss
Lois Bassett, and a vocal solo “Going Home,” by Mrs. Ed Grosjean of Montpelier.
The speakers were W. A. Hart, Raymond, G. H. Hall, Ogden; Pres. Ed. C. Rich and
Pres. Silas L. Wright.
The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, bearing evidence of the esteem
in which she was held by those who knew her. Despite weather conditions, the
funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from Raymond and other
cities and towns. Benediction was pronounced by Bishop Henry Teuscher of Geneva.
Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
