OVID

It is with pleasure that we include in this review of Bear Lake County the history of Val Hedburg's Service Station at Ovid since 1930. At this station the motorist gets the service he expects, little attentions he likes, such as water in his radiator, air in his tires and the windows cleaned.

Also a smile when you come and one when you go. Mr. Hedburg sells Shell Gas and Oil and Federal and Gates tires.

The Montpelier Examiner, 14 October 1937

The Service Station, Garage and Blacksmith shop and living quarters of Val Hedberg were completely demolished when fire broke out in the service station in Ovid last Friday.  The total damage is estimated to be over $3000.

The fire was started by the stove in the front of the service station from an explosion of coal dust.  The explosion of the stove immediately ignited a can of tar close by and the fire soon spread beyond the control of Mr. Hedberg who had just stepped out of the station.  The fire occurred about 9 o'clock and no insurance was carried on the property burned or the equipment.

Reconstruction of the station is underway and will be replaced as soon as conditions permits.
