REPORT MAN KILLED IN ACTION
S/Sgt. Alfred Kunz, 24, of the Air Force, who was reported missing since July 31 over Germany, has since been reported killed in action on that date, according to a report originating from the German Red Cross and transmitted by the Adjutant General to Mrs. Wayne Burke, sister of Sergeant Kunz. A telegram stating that he was missing since July 31 was received here August 11. The bomber in which Sergeant Kunz was a tail gunner encountered heavy flak over Munich and was reported to have left formation and gone into a spin. Three parachutes were seen to open. Sergeant Kunz entered the service in January 1942 and went overseas in June 1944. Prior to entering the service he was employed here as a brakeman on the Union Pacific.
He was born in Bern March 13, 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Kunz, who moved from Bern to Cheyenne about three years ago. The young man lived practically his entire life in Bear Lake county, attending grade school in Bern and high school in Montpelier.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are five sisters, on of whom, Mrs. Fred Allhizer of Richmond Virginia is a twin; Mrs. William Sunderland of Boise, Mrs. Gordon Hillman and Ferol Kunz, both of San Bernardino, California; and Mrs. Burke of Montpelier; three brothers, Theron Kunz of San Bernardino, Lowell Kunz of Pocatello and Grant Kunz of Cheyenne; and his grandfather, George E Pope of Salt Lake.
