FINAL RITES FOR Z GEORGE NELSON HELD ON MONDAY
Zera George Nelson, 42, teacher, church leader and South Montpelier farmer, died Friday at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital following a short illness. The son of Rasmus R and Ann G Keetch Nelson, he was born March 5, 1914 in Montpelier. Mr. Nelson was educated in local schools and attended USAC in Logan where he received his BS degree.
He served in the capacity of county supervisor for the Farm Security Administration in various Idaho counties for five years. Mr. Nelson was an instructor for the veteran on the farm training program in Bear Lake County for seven years. For the past 11 years he had owned and operated his own farm. His educational contributions also included two years as teacher in the Montpelier LDS Seminary. At the time of his death, he was a teacher in Montpelier High School, having joined the faculty in the fall of 1954.
Mr. Nelson served on the Bear Lake County War Board during the latter part of World War II and on the Bear Lake County Scholl Reorganization Committee. For a number of years he served as president of the Preston Montpelier Irrigation Company. An active worker in the LDS church, he fulfilled a mission in Texas 1936-1938. He was Agriculture chairman and Stake High councilman in the Minidoka Stake; Stake Superintendent of the Sunday School and first counselor in the presidency of the High Priests’ quorum in Montpelier Stake. He had also served as superintendent of the YMMIA and first counselor in the bishopric of the Wardboro ward. At the time of his death he was financial clerk of the Montpelier First ward.
Mr. Nelson and Lois Passey were married September 15, 1936 in the LDS Temple Salt Lake City. Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Frederick, Michael and Steven of South Montpelier; two brothers, R K Nelson of South Montpelier and Dr. Aaron Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters Mrs. Leroy (Rozena) Oaks of North Ogden, and Mrs. Vern (Murcy) Boyer of Coalville Utah. Services were held at 1 pm Monday in the Montpelier Stake Tabernacle with Bishop David Jensen of the Montpelier First Ward conducting the following program.

Pall bearers were Earl Sorenson, Harold Peterson, Frank Campbell, Winslow
Swensen, Ferris Nyman and Parley Lloyd. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of
arrangements.
