William W Thompson
Montpelier Examiner, 16 June 1927, page 1
William Thompson, age 96 years, a veteran of the Civil War, died
Saturday afternoon at 3 pm at his home west north of the Short Line railroad
yards. Heart trouble was stated as the cause of death. Mr. Thompson was highly
respected citizen and on account of his years, did not mingle to a great extent
about town, but nevertheless he was active about his home up to the time of his
death. While approaching the century mark in life's journey, one would not have
believed him to be of that age to have seen him while lying in state.
William Thompson was born in Louisiana, May 10, 1831 and was reared in Baltimore, Maryland. He and his family came to Montpelier six years ago from Arkansas. Mr. Thompson was one of the first men to homestead oil land in the famous LaBarge oil field of Wyoming.
Surviving Mr. Thompson are a widow, Mary Thompson and three children. They are Mrs. Carl Sorg, John Thompson and Alfred Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson had been married 49 years last January 14th and were looking forward to the celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Funeral services were held from the family home Monday at 2 o'clock and interment was in the Ovid Cemetery.
