WAR VETERAN
William H Smith, 69, real estate man of Montpelier for the past
20 years, died Sunday morning at a local hospital after an extended illness. He
had lived in Ogden at 916 Twenty Seventh street since September. He was born in
Pescola, Michigan August 30, 1866, a son of Gilbert Smith and Margaret Harrop.
He was married in Michigan in 1900 and came to Montpelier about 20 years ago.
He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, having served in Company M, Thirty fourth Michigan volunteers. He was also a member of the Thompsonville Michigan lodge F and A M. Surviving are his widow, a son, S D Smith of Ogden, a daughter, Mrs. D E Welked of Ogden, four grandchildren and three brothers and a sister all of Michigan, Arch Smith of Traverse, Lynn Smith of Coleman, Mrs. Melvin Smith of Battle Creek and Dell Smith of Bay City.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 pm in the Masonic Temple under the direction of George Washington Lodge, A F & A M.
