William Ridd, one of the most prominent mechanics in the State, succumbed to pneumonia yesterday afternoon at his home in this city. Several weeks ago Mr. Ridd had contracted a severe cold, which soon developed into pneumonia. He was born in Linton, England, December 19, 1831. He emigrated to Utah while a young man, arriving in Salt Lake in 1854.

He at once began work at his trade, that of carpentry and soon became a very skillful workman. In the early days he did considerable contracting, constructing several saw mills in Little and Big Cottonwood canyons. He superintended the construction of the Provo woolen mills. He had charge of the construction of the Assembly Hall under General Superintendent Grow.

Mr. Ridd also worked many years on the Salt Lake Temple where he did excellent work. The funeral services will be held from the Twenty second ward meeting house.-Deseret News

The deceased was the father of Councilman W H Ridd of this city and was quite will known throughout this valley. Will went down to Salt Lake immediately on receiving the sad news.
