William Oakey of this city met with a terrible accident while working on his thresher north of town last Wednesday morning. He was starting the machinery when he had his hand caught under the large belt on the thresher. The unfortunate gentleman was raised from the ground and the machinery was stopped to release him as possible.
The bone of his arm was broken at the wrist, the hand was doubled back up to the arm, the ends of the bones protruded from the flesh and the cavity in the arm was filled with grease from the machinery. The patient was hurried to the office of Dr. Ashley, where his injuries were attended.
He was suffering greatly yesterday and it is not sure tha the hand can yet be saved. The accident falls with great severity on Mr. Oakey, who recently lost his wife by death.
