CHILD DROWNS IN IRRIGATION CANAL
Viola Marie Thornock, 18 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verden D Thornock was drowned about 12:45 pm last Thursday in the irrigation canal passing through the yard of the Thornock home in Bloomington. Wandering away from her mother and grandfather, Sidney Thornock, the child was missed only about three minutes when search was started. the body was recovered by Julian Thornock 20 minutes later one block and a half below where she apparently had fallen into the canal.
Viola Marie Thornock was born November 17, 1955 in Montpelier. Besides her parents and paternal grandfather, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hansen of Grace. Services were held at 2 pm Saturday in the Bloomington LDS Ward with Bishop T Jay Nelson conducting.
The opening song "The Lord is My Shepherd" was by the choir; invocation John N Findlay; remarks Bishop Nelson; speaker James Hansen; vocal solo "Cindy, Oh Cindy" Ann Haddock, accompanied by Anna Marie Ward; speaker Hulme Dunford; song "I Need Thee Every Hour" quartet comprised of Charles Hulme, Dean Ward, Paul Haddock and Hulme Dunford; speaker William Nield; song "Though Deepening Trials" choir; benediction Charles E Hulme. The prayer at home was offered by LaMar Thornock.
Interment was in the Bloomington cemetery and
the grave was dedicated by Harold V Reese. The Matthews Mortuary was in
charge of arrangements.
