Soren and Christiana Nelsen

Soren Nelsen was born 19 Mar 1803 in Flade Denmark, the son of Niels Nielsen and Karen Sorensen.  He married Christiana Larsen 6 Oct 1827 in Elling Denmark.  She was born 27 Mar 1804 to Lars Hailsen and Anne Knudsen.  They left Liverpool England in 1855 on the ship John Boyd, arriving in New York 15 Feb 1856.  They crossed the plains and spent part of the winter across from St Louis.  They arrived in Salt Lake City 20 Sep 1856.

They moved to Hyde Park Utah in 1860 where they lived until the spring of 1864 when they moved to Bear Lake Valley.  They lived in wagon boxes on Bloomington Creek until they could get out lumber to build a house.

Soren Nelsen continued his shoemaking trade and wore wooden shoes around the house.  They retained their Danish way of life in both dress and speech.  Both died at the home of their daughter, Tena Thomas in Bloomington.  Soren died 8 Apr 1896 and Christiana died 21 Aug 1897 and both are buried in the Bloomington Cemetery.
