FORMER MONTPELIER INSTRUCTOR DIES

Seymour Horne Spencer, 71, Salt Lake City, former well known Montpelier resident, died at his home Friday morning of causes incident to age.  Born to George and Leonora Spencer, July 16, 1888 at Paris, he married Sophronia Quayle of Montpelier March 11, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Spencer was a retired school administrator, seminary teacher for 30 years and a dairyman.  He was an ardent church worker and was bishop of the Montpelier Third Ward and served on the Millard stake high council.  At the time of his death, he was chairman of the Liberty Ward Adult Aaronic committee. He recently completed a comprehensive work on the life of his father, Orson Spencer, the first chancellor of the University of Utah.

Survivors include one son, Robert W Spencer, Salt Lake City; four daughters Helen S Whatcott, Modesto California, Mrs. Norman S Beckstrand, Logan, Beth S Robinson, Cleveland Oh and Joan S McKee Vernal Utah; 12 grandchildren and two brothers Joseph H Spencer, Salt Lake City and Edwin Spencer, Magna Utah.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1 pm in the Liberty Ward LDS Chapel, followed by interment in the Paris cemetery.
