ONE OF BEAR LAKE'S PIONEERS OF '63 LAID TO REST

Sarah C Hymas, wife of the late Bishop James Hymas, of Lanark, after a long and lingering illness passed to the great beyond at her home in Liberty on December 11.  The funeral services were held in the Liberty ward chapel, Tuesday at 1 pm Bishop W R Morgan presiding.  The speakers were B H Findlay, Oscar Parker of Lanark, Bishop S E Hymas of Sharon, Pres. Wm L Rich and James Dunford of Paris.  Joseph Derricott and Bishop Morgan of Liberty, all of whom spoke of the sterling qualities and beautiful character of the deceased, as a true and faithful Latter-Day Saint.

The opening prayer was offered by Henry Parker and the benediction by Clem Poulsen. The Liberty ward choir rendered very beautifully the following selections; Abide with Me, Rest on the Hillside, My Father Knows. The pall bearers were her five sons ad one grandson.  Dedicatory prayer by B P Hymas.

Sarah C Hymas was the daughter of David and Sarah Evans, born in Pittsburg Penn. 15 Feb 1847.  She was baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ohio River and immigrated to Utah with her parents in 1858, where she lived until 63 when she came to Bear Lake and lived on boiled wheat and suffered many privations during the winter.  She then went back to Cache Valley where she lived until 1881, when she moved to Liberty with her husband and family, where she lived until her death.  Her husband was called as Bishop of the Lanark ward in 1904 where they labored hand to hand for the benefit of the sick and needy, and many chambers of death had her comfort and sympathy.

She was President of the Lanark Relief Society for many years and was active in church work until her death. She died as she had lived true and faithful in the covenants she had made. May we be as well prepared to go home when our time comes as she.  She was the mother of twelve children, five sons and four daughters survive her, all of whom were with her in the last hours of her sickness, also 63 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
