DEATH
This week we are called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. Jane
Astle, who had been a resident of this valley for about 51 years. The end came
at her home in this city last Wednesday morning after an illness of about five
days with pneumonia. She was a native of England and 65 years of age.
Her funeral will be held at the First Ward meeting house this afternoon at 2 pm.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Astle was born in Abbsu---- Monmouthshire England on May 4, 1850. Her parents were Henry and Sarah Denning. They came to this country when she was two years of age and crossed the plains with ox wagons arriving in Salt Lake in 1853,. In 1864 they moved to Bear Lake Valley and in 1886 she was united in marriage to Joseph C Astle. With the exception of five years spent in Malad valley, they have always resided in Montpelier. Mr. Astle died four years ago last July. She was the mother of ten children, only three of whom survive her, Joseph C, Arthur and Henry. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
One granddaughter Mrs. Wadman of Ogden was visiting with her at the time of her death. Her funeral services which were held at the First ward meeting house last Friday were largely attended and the speakers all gave warm tributes in the life of the deceased.
