J J Rohner
The Montpelier, Examiner, November 14, 1913
Last Monday about noon, Sheriff Olsen and Chief of Police Nelson
seized two barrels of beer and 15 cases of Cane Spring Whiskey, which they found
in a wagon in J J Rohner's barn. Mr. Rohner was accordingly arrested on
the charge of "maintaining a nuisance" under the provisions of the local option
law. He was taken before Justice Barnett, who placed him under a $500 bond
for appearance at his preliminary hearing on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
For a time the officers were in a quandary as to what to do with the "booze" but they finally concluded to place it in the city jail overnight "for safe keeping". J A Bagley defense attorney for the defendant, moved for a continuance, which was granted.
Sheriff Olsen hired a team to move the liquor to Paris, where it would be retained until the case against the defendant is finally disposed of the the courts.
