DEATH OF ROBERT MESSERLY
 

Robert Messerly, 75, Montpelier resident since 1898, died at 2 pm Tuesday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Emma Evans.  Mr. Messerly had been in ill health for the past three years.  He was born April 28, 1880 in Berne, Switzerland, the son of John and Elizabeth Luthi Messerly.  When 18 years old he accompanied his father and brothers and sisters to America, making their home in Montpelier.  Mr. Messerly engaged in building and contract work and also farming.  he was a member of the LDS Church and also Free Camp No 168, Woodmen of the World.

Mr. Messerly and Eliza Kunz were married March 9, 1905 at Paris and the wedding was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.  His wife preceded him in death on May 25, 1935.

Surviving are nine children born to the union; Edwin R Messerly, Bertha E Messerly and Mrs. Evans all of Montpelier, Mrs. Clarence (Erma) Alleman of Nounan, Melvin J Messerly of Salt Lake City, Lloyd R Messerly of Montpelier, Mrs. D E (Leola) Kivett of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Larry (Jean) Gertch of Glenns Ferry and Mrs. E A (Eldene) Machan of Seattle.  Also surviving are three brothers, John Messerly of Ogden, Fred Messerly of Glenns Ferry; three sisters Ms. Charles (Lucy) Smith of Lake Orin, Michigan, Mrs. Rose M Harris of Dayton Ohio and Mrs. John W (Martha) Howard of Brigham City; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 pm Friday in the Montpelier Third ward Chapel.  The Matthews Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

RITES ARE HELD IN THIRD WARD
 

Funeral services for Robert Messerly were held at 1 pm Friday in the Montpelier Third Ward Chapel with Bishop Frank W Hirschi conducting.  Invocation Elmer S Burgoyne; opening song, "Oh My Father" was by a trio comprised of Phillip Hulme, Max Haddock and Eugene J Grimes, accompanied by Mrs. Hulme; remarks Bishop Hirschi; speaker Vernal E Peterson; song "Whispering Hope" Mrs. Walter Hunzeker, accompanied by Mrs. T Emery Mumford; speaker Wayne Messerly, nephew of the deceased; song "In The Garden" trio; benediction J Warren Wilcox.  Prayer at the Mortuary was offered by J L Jaussi.

Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Lloyd Messerly.

Pallbearers were William Hirschi, Ed Grosjean, Lorain Grunig, Leo Kunz, Jake Kunz and Afred Kunz.  The Matthew Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
