Information comes form Marie N Bridges in the History of Bear Lake Pioneers
Rasmus Jorgensen was born 22 May 1808 in Skejby Aarhus, Denmark to Jorgen Nielsen and Sidsel Rasmussen. Rasmus married Karen Jensen, a widow 4 Oct 1833 in Skejby. They had one daughter, Cecelia, born 19 May 1835. Cecelia was the first to accept the gospel when she was 24 years of age. Rasmus joined the church the following year, but his wife did not accept the gospel.
Rasmus and his daughter Cecelia left Denmark along with their neighbor Jacobine Kirsten Mogensen Jensen and her young daughter, Maren. Paul Michael Poulsen, a mason by trade also came with them. They sailed from Liverpool England 11 May 1861 aboard the Monarch of the Sea. According to the "journal history" of the ship, the first few days at sea were very stormy ones and there was much sickness on board. On Friday 17 May 1861 on board the ship, Paul Michael Poulsen and Cecelia Jorgensen were married. On the following Monday 20 May Rasmus Jorgensen and Jacobine Kirstine Mogensen were united in marriage by Elder Niels Wilhelmsen. Jacobine Kirstine was born 22 Aug 1836 in Hornslet Randers, Denmark.
When they arrived in this country, they joined Captain Samuel A Wooley's ox train company which arrived in Salt Lake City 22 Sep 1861.
Rasmus and Jacobine settled in Brigham City for a short time. Paul Michael Poulsen and Cecelia settled in Petersboro in Cache Valley not far from Logan. Rasmus and his family came to Ovid in Bear Lake in the spring of 1864 along with the early settlers of that community. The names of the other men were Robert S Williams, Henry Gassman, Peter and Bodil Jensen, John F Carlsen, Jens Jensen and Thomas C Peterson.
Rasmus died about 1865 in Ovid, his wife Jacobine about 1866 in Ovid and her mother Mary Tomassen are all buried together in the cemetery in Paris although the exact spot is unknown.
