STRIKE OIL AN COAL IN LIBERTY PRECINCT

Is Liberty precinct to become a great coal and oil producer-the Pittsburg of Idaho?  That question cannot be answered at this time, but the citizens of that precinct are having visions these days of the vat industries which will be built up there in the future if the oil and coal discoveries made there recently prove to be "the real stuff".

The first indication of coal was discovered about a month ago, when well drivers boring a well on the ranch of W E Poulsen. When down about 70 feet the drill penetrated what is termed a "coal blossom".  After drilling in Lanark they returned to Liberty to obtain permission from W E Poulsen to drill further on his property.

Last Saturday at a depth of 160 feet the drill penetrated a vein of coal over 10 feet in thickness.  About four feet above the coal, there was very strong indication of oil.
