Pieces of the Past

The Montpelier Examiner, November 19, 1909

Building Telephone Line Supervisor Shell of Caribou Forest Reserve is here this week looking after business in connection with the reserve.  Mr. Shell informed an Examiner representative that the Forest Service is now constructing a telephone line from Montpelier to Gray's Lake, a distance of about five miles.  Two crews of about 10 men each are at work on the line and they hope to have it completed to the Blackfoot Stock Company's ranch before winter sets in.  Next season the line will be extended from the aforesaid ranch up Lane's Creek to Wayan and out to Lyon, on the South Fork of the Snake River, a total distance of 100 miles from here.  Phones will be installed at each forest ranger's station along the line, which will also be connected with central office in Montpelier.
