SCHOOL BURNS

Fire of unknown origin razed the school building at Ovid during the night Wednesday causing property damage estimated at approximately $5000. The Ovid school district had been ordered by the State earlier in the summer to erect a new building and the residents of the district voted down the bonding of the district. Another election has been expected to be held soon.

With the burning of the building other facilities will have to be arranged for the caring of the pupils this coming fall as time will not permit the erection of a new building in time for the opening of school.

A notice is being published in this paper by the clerk of the Ovid school district for sealed proposals for furnishing labor and material for the erection and completion of a new school building. An election was held at that place for the issuance of $11,000 in bonds, practically every vote cast was in favor of the proposition. It is the aim of the board of trustees to get the work under way and completed as soon as possible. At the present time school is being conducted in the ward chapel.

The modern brick school house being constructed at Ovid is near completion. The plastering is finished and the floors are to be laid immediately. The heating system employs the use of a large hot air furnace with automatic stoker. An automatic home water plant has to be installed with modern lavatories and accessories. The two large classrooms and various compartments are extremely well lighted and ventilated.

It is reported that the school will be opened in the first part of February. For the past few years the water supply at the Ovid school house has been fluctuating and as a new modern building is being erected there, an attempt was made to increase the flow of water by the use of dynamite.
