PIONEER DIES


Oliver Cowdery Dunford, 79, early Bear Lake pioneer, teacher, civic and church leader, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Bloomington Monday. He was born to Isaac Dunford and Leah Bailey on October 12, 1863 in St Louis Missouri. In the following year his parents were among the first settlers to move to Bloomington. Since 1864 Mr. Dunford has lived in Bloomington where he was instrumental in organizing the village board, served among the first members of that board and otherwise assumed many responsibilities in city and church affairs.

Although he operated a farm his main interest and vocation was that of teaching. In this connection he was instrumental in getting Fielding Academy, later Fielding High School established and was one of the first teachers of that institution. At various times in his career, he taught at nearly every school in the county.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Osmond Dunford; four daughters, Mrs. Don Haddock of Paris, Mrs. Charles Woolley of Oakland Calif. Mrs. Joy Brisco of San Francisco, and Mrs. Ida O'Brien of Oakland; six sons, Rao Dunford of Georgetown, William S Dunford and Teller Dunford, both of Provo, Ralph Dunford of Alameda Calif. Osmond Dunford of Shelley and Isaac Dunford of Bloomington, James L Dunford of Paris, 36 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm Friday in the Bloomington ward chapel. The F M Williams Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
