Pft. MOURITSEN DIES FROM ILLNESS

Pft. Reeves Mouritsen, 19, died on Noemfoor Island, New Guinea on December 23, 1944, according to a telegram received January 5 by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Mouritsen of Montpelier, now temporarily located in Burley.  His parents had been informed on January 2 that according to information received in the United States, their son was seriously ill since December 22 in New Guinea.

Pfc. Mouritsen entered the service in September 1943 and went overseas in April 1944.  While here he was employed by the Arrowhead Freight Lines.  He was born May 13, 1925 in Rexburg, but had lived in Montpelier since March 1936 when his parents moved here.  Surviving besides his parens are one sister, Mrs. Earl Roderick of Montpelier and one brother, Lieutenant Keith Mouritsen QMC with the Third Army in France.

MEMORIAL SERVICES HONOR Pfc. REEVES MOURITSEN

 

Memorial services for Pfc. Reeves Mouritsen who died in New Guinea December 23, 1944, were held Sunday at 12 pm in the Second ward chapel, with Bishop Alvin Tueller presiding.  Military honors were shown by Post 63 American Legion, under the direction Commander E L Downing.

The services opened with advance of colors; song "Though Deepening Trials" quartet comprised of Mr. and Mrs. Max Haddock, Mrs. Clyde Phelps and Paul haddock; invocation, Conover Wright; song; "Oh, Tis Wonderful" quarter; speaker, President Silas L Wright; vocal due; "Resignation" Mrs. Conover Wright and Samuel Hall; speaker Bishop Clarence L Wright; vocal due, "Come Unto Me" Mrs. Wright and Mr. Hall; speaker A J Winters Post 63 American Legion; remarks, Bishop Tueller; vocal solo "Lords Prayer" Max Haddock; presentation of flag and pledge of allegiance, J Vern Dunn; benediction Bishop G E Hulme; retirement of colors; Mr. Dunn, E B Wruthrich, E C Grimes and Jerome Taylor were color bearers and guard.
