WILL REPRESENT CLASS OF 1958
Nolan E Clark was elected valedictorian and Linda Crane,
salutatorian for Montpelier High School class of 1958 Principal Harold Phillips
announced today. Commencement will be held at 8 pm Friday, May 23.
The two candidates were chosen on the basis of scholastic records achieved over the past seven semesters and approval vote by all faculty members. Mr. Clark established a grade point average of 3.973 out of a possible 4.0 while Miss Crane was a close runner-up with 3.955. Except for one B grade each, both the students have a record of straight A marks for seven semesters. The difference in grade points was determined by number of courses completed. Mr. Clark has completed 18 3/4 units whereas Miss Crane completed 16 units.
Both students are active in student body and extra-curricular work and both are finalists in the Merit Scholarship program. Miss Crane is also a semi-finalist in the National Honor Society scholarship contest. Miss Crane is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crane of Bennington and Mr. Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E Clark of Georgetown.

SENIOR IS WINNER OF SCIENCE AWARD AT MHS
Lance J Taylor was elected by the MHS faculty as winner of the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award for 1958, according to Principal Harold Phillips. This bronze medal will be presented at commencement exercises on May 23.
The award is based on grades in science and mathematics over the past seven semesters, the successful candidate having maintained straight A's in all these subjects. The senior is a finalist in the Merit Scholarship program and a semi-finalist in the National Honor Society scholarship contest. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Taylor of Montpelier.

FIVE MONTPELIER HIGH SENIORS AWARDED MERIT CERTIFICATES
Five seniors at Montpelier High School have been awarded Certificates of Merit as a result of their outstanding performances in the 1957-58 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to Principal H W Philips.
Nolan E Clark, Linda Crane, Kay C Dunn, Joan D Ream and Lance J Taylor have received the Certificates which attest to the high academic promise of the students. High scores on two college aptitude tests led to the nationally recognized academic honors for the five seniors. Less than one half of one per cent of the seniors in each state received the awards.
