CAR ACCIDENT
A pall of sadness was cast over Ovid and vicinity yesterday when
Nina (Mona) Jean Johnson, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Johnson died at a
Montpelier hospital at 8:30 am following an automobile accident the previous
evening at 6:45 when she was struck by a car driven by Thurman Rigby of Bern.
Miss Johnson, a student at Fielding two years ago had been assisting Mrs. Bertha Johnson put up some fruit for Chris Sorenson, who lives some distance north along the highway from her home. Given a ride home by Elzo Johnson, she had alighted from the car and walked around back of it into the path of the car driven by Rigby. The impact of the machine threw her approximately 45 feet from the road.
Miss Johnson is survived by her parents and brothers, Weldon and Wayne. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 pm in the Ovid ward chapel.

Mona Jean Johnson, 17, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Johnson of Ovid, died in a local hospital Wednesday at 8:30 am from head and internal injuries inflicted Tuesday at about 7 pm when she was hit by a north bound automobile while crossing the road in front of her home, situated on the east side of the Bern road 500 years north of the Ovid post office.
Miss Johnson in getting out of a car of Elzo Johnson's who had been driving south and had parked on the west side of the Bern road, allegedly went to the rear and started across the road and had nearly reached the east side when she was struck by the right front portion of the oncoming automobile going north, driven by Truman W Rigby. Mr. Rigby, who is teaching school at Cleveland, according to State Patrolman Tommy Cavanaugh who investigated the wreck was driving at the rate of about35 miles an hour. On impact Mr. Rigby stopped his car, a Ford sedan, picked up the girl and brought her to Montpelier.
Besides her parents, Miss Johnson is survived by two brothers, Weldon and Wayne Johnson of Ovid. Funeral services will be held in Ovid, Saturday at 1:30 under the direction of the F M Williams Mortuary. This is the second traffic fatality to occur in Bear Lake county since January 1, both of which have been off the more used highway US 30.

In the Ovid LDS chapel Saturday beginning at 1 pm, funeral services were held for Mona Jean Johnson who died September 21 from injuries sustained when she was hit by an automobile.
Opening hymn was by the choir; opening prayer, L P Jensen; hymn, choir; speaker Bishop Robert Schmid of Bern; speaker James L Dunford of Bloomington; vocal duet, Mr. and Mrs. James Olsen; speaker Bishop Oliver L Peterson; hymn, choir; closing prayer, Marion Beck. The grave was dedicated by Bishop Wyler Bartschi of Nounan; interment was made in the Ovid cemetery. The funeral arrangements were under the direction of the F M Williams mortuary.
