CORPORAL MELVIN D KRUSSELL DIES IN GEORGIA
Corporal Melvin D Krussell, 28, who saw action in the Southwest Pacific area, died from an abscess of the neck at Fort Benning, Georgia, February 2, his father, Otto Krussell of Montpelier, has been advised by the commanding officer. He entered the service June 10, 1935, and was stationed in Hawaii at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. A member of a tank battalion unit, he saw service in Guadalcanal.
Corporal Krussell was born in Montpelier on November 10, 1918. In addition to his father, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ambernell Mumford Krussell, whom he married October 14, 1943, three sisters; Mrs. Mark Dunn, Mrs. Edwin Hymas and Ruby Krussell of Montpelier; three brothers, Bernhardt Krussell C/SF USN, who has been in the Navy 15 years and at present in submarine service; Fred Krussell, now in Honolulu, formerly in the service and Pvt. Jack Krussell, Camp Roberts, California; also surviving are his foster mother, two step sisters, Mrs. Don Williams, whose husband is an MP in India; and Norma Krussell; five step brothers, Earl Hymas, Ogden; Pfc. Eugene Hymas, medical corps in the Philippine Islands; Pfc. Victor Hymas, infantry, New Guinea; Edwin and Don Hymas of Montpelier; and his maternal grandmother Mrs. Peter Hansen of Montpelier.
The remains are at the F M Williams Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2pm in the First Ward Chapel.
