DIES AT AGE OF 89 YEARS
Maud R Toomer, 89, well known resident of Montpelier for the past 72 years, died at 4 am Wednesday. She was born November 10, 1866 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Samuel W and Helena Robinson Richards, early Utah settlers. When a young girl she accompanied her parents to Border, Wyoming where she lived until moving to Montpelier following her marriage with Charles Herbert Toomer on June 1, 1884.
A participant and observer of much of the early growth of the city, Mrs. Toomer was active in civic and social affairs. She was a past president of the Montpelier Chapter, American Ward Mothers; a member of the Society of Daughters of Utah Pioneers; and active in the LDS Church and auxiliary organizations. For many years she took a leading part in the Hope Rebekah Lodge.
Her husband preceded her in death on December 12, 1928. All five children born to the union survive. They are; Clifford H Toomer of Montpelier, Harold R Toomer of Long Beach, California, Edwin W Toomer of Montpelier, Orson D Toomer of Salt Lake City and Mrs. W Scott (Verda) Pendrey of Montpelier. Also surviving are one brother, Albert G Richards of Jackson Wyoming, and two sisters Mrs. Minnie Russell of San Francisco and Mrs. Stella R White of San Diego, California; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services have been set for 2 pm Saturday in the Montpelier Second Ward
Chapel. The Matthews Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
