Lyman Alma Hymas, 72, prominent farmer and lifelong resident of Bear Lake county, died Tuesday from a stroke in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mr. Hymas spent the winter in Mesa, Arizona and had been with his daughter, Mrs. S F Harrington in Salt Lake city the past six weeks. He entered the hospital two weeks ago following a heart attack and suffered a stroke Monday.

The son of James Hymas and Sarah Cornelia Evans, he was born 24 December 1888 in Liberty. He married Elnora Poulsen 25 November 1914 in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City. She died 15 October 1954.

Active in church, school and civic affairs, Mr. Hymas served as a member of the Liberty ward bishopric and was superintendent of the Bear Lake Stake Sunday School. He also served as president of the Bear Lake Stake High Priests for several years and was a trustee of the Liberty school district for several years and was a trustee of the Liberty school district for several terms. Mr. Hymas was a county commissioner 1944-1946. During the past winter he was an officiator in the LDS Temple in Mesa.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons. Mrs. Harrington of Salt Lake City; Gwen Hymas, head stewardess of United Airlines Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Sterling (Rhea) Stephens of Hyrum Utah, Max W Hymas of Salt Lake City, and Mirl B Hymas of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by one brother and one sister, Simpson E Hymas of Grace and Mrs. Arthur Dore of Venice, California, now at Lava Hot Springs and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 pm Saturday in the Liberty ward chapel with the arrangements in charge of Matthews Mortuary.
