L W Johnson, 67 years of age and prominent in lode mining in western states for forty years died Sunday, November 27th in Montpelier following a week's illness. Johnson was born in Spring Lake, Utah, his father being one of the early Utah pioneers and one time secretary to Joseph Smith. Mr. Johnson was married to Nancy Nebeker in 1901 in Richfield, Utah and they moved to Paris in 1930, where Mr. Johnson was president and general manager of the Paris Boulder Mining company. He had lived in Paris since with the exception of two years spent in Washington DC.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Lenora Johnson of Washington DC and three sons, Lowell Johnson of Glendale, California; Leon Johnson of Inglewood, California; and Dow Johnson of Paris; two foster children, Vernard Anderson of Provo and Mrs. George J Chestnutt of Los Angeles; also six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Paris LDS Second ward chapel Tuesday at pm. Invocation was by Bishop S E Hyman, music was by a quartet composed of Edwin T Shepherd, Herbert Spence, Mrs. O H Grimmett and Mrs. Vida Shepherd; hymns were "Nearer Dear Saviour to Thee" "Behold Tis Eventide" and "My Savior As Thou Wilt"; the speakers were W Smith Hoge, H H Broomhead and Bishop O H Grimmett; a duet "Resignation" was by Mrs. Lester Allred and Mrs. Isaac Dunford. The benediction was given by Bishop James Poulsen.
Those acting as pallbearers were Irwin Parker, F L Ringle, James Dunn, Isaac Dunford, Gottfried Jaussi and Lester Allred. Herbert Spencer dedicated the grave.
