With the passing from life to death of James Poulsen of Liberty, who was 89 years old, Bear Lake mourns the loss of another sturdy pioneer, whose death occurred last Friday. Funeral services were held in the chapel Sunday afternoon. Bishop Wm Morgan presided and music was furnished by the Liberty quartette Nels Johnson of Ovid, Samuel Matthews of Liberty, David Low, Pres. Roy A Welker and Pres. Wm L Rich of Paris with Bishop Morgan spoke at the service.

James Poulsen was born on October 28, 1831. He embraced the gospel and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young man and labored there as a missionary for six years With his wife and sister, they started for this country. Sickness broke out among the passengers as scarlet fever. Many went to a watery grave among them being his wife and family and sister. All his family gone but a nephew.

He was married to Maren Christina Cirff in 1862 and to them eight children were born. In 1870 he married Mary Humphreys and to them were born thirteen children. In 1886 he was married to Trine Jensen. He was called to his native country in 1889 and labored for several years. At all times he was a zealous worker and always willing to give the best in him. Passing through many hardships he never faltered but died a true servant to the faith.

He leaves a wife and fourteen children, ninety-nine grandchildren to survive his loss, besides a host of friends.
