BEAR LAKE COUNTY EDUCATOR DIES
James W Patterson, 65, Bear Lake County educator, died June 16 in a Salt Lake Hospital. A native of Bloomington, he was born June 19, 1893, the son of Edward and Mary Patterson. Mr. Patterson graduated from Fielding High School, attended the old Idaho Technical Institute, Pocatello and received his degree from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. A teacher for thirty-four and one half years, Mr. Patterson began his career at Malad in 1913-14, and taught at Raymond, 1914-15, and Mink Creek 1915-1916. He returned to his profession in 1920, teaching at Dingle for eight years and then at Montpelier for 14 years, 1928 to 1942. In recent years, he lived in Salt Lake City during the summer months.
A dedicated Boy Scout leader, he was an Eagle Scout and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver and National Scouters Award. He attended the National Jamboree at Washington DC. Mr. Patterson and Pearl Price were married June 11, 1930 in the LDS Temple, Salt Lake City. Besides his widow he is survived by one son and three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Beverly) Tidwell, Patricia, Dean and DeEtte Patterson, all of Salt Lake City; one grandson, and seven sisters, Mrs. Alfred A (Sarah) Hart of Bloomington; Mrs. Charles (Amy) Patinter and Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Painter both of Salt Lake City; Mrs. John (Ida) Ward of Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Stanley (Zina) Dunford and Wendell (Iola) Christensen, both of Provo, and Mrs. Osmnd (Venna) Dunford of Payson, Utah.
Services were held at 1 pm Saturday, in the Bloomington LDS ward chapel with Bishop Alfred B Hart conducting. The opening song "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" was by the choir; invocation President L Burdette Pugmire; speaker Bishop T Jay Nelson; vocal solo "In My Father's House are Many Mansions" Violet Passey; speaker Bishop Osmond Dunford; vocal solo "Face to Face" Wendell Christensen; speaker A J Winters; remarks Bishop Hart; song "Oh My Father" choir; benediction, Roy Larsen.
Interment was in the Bloomington cemetery and the grave was dedicated by A D Oakey. Pall bearers were Ivor, Robert, and Jay Price, Joseph Patterson, Jay Painter and Eugene Hart.
