FINAL RITES HELD FOR JAMES JENSEN
James Jensen, 74, a life long resident of Montpelier, died Friday evening at his home following a long illness. He was born December 22, 1884 in Montpelier and lived and died in the same city block. Mr. Jensen taught school for a number of years. He was the son of Christian and Stena Rasmussen Jensen. On September 28, 1916, he and Naomi Phelps were married in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City. Mr. Jensen was an active member of the LDS Church He was preceded in death by a son, Max and two daughters, Joan and Mary Jane.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons and two daughters, Everett Jensen of Idaho Falls, Mrs. Merrill (Ramona) Lewis of Montpelier, Richard C Jensen of Bountiful Utah, Mrs. Dee (Juanita) Gray of Menan, and Rogert G R Jensen of Montpelier, 15 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Andy Jorgensen and on brother Leo Jensen, both of Montpelier.
Services were held at 2 pm Tuesday in the Montpelier Third-Fifth Ward Chapel with Bishop Philip Hulme of the Third Ward conductin and giving the obituary. The invocation was offered by Bishop John Tuescher; opening song “The Teacher’s Work is Done” Max Haddock, accompanied by Mrs. Hulme; tribute in verse “A Miracle, New Eyes” written by deceased, read by Mrs. Paul Adams; speaker Edward H Sorenson of Salt Lake City; vocal solo “Oh My Father: Mrs. Reed Lowe; speaker Hugh M Phelps, branch president, Laurel Montana; vocal solo “The Lord’s Prayer” Mrs. Waldo Andersen; benediction, President Frank W Hirschi. Mrs. Hulme played the prelude and postlude. The prayer at the mortuary was offered by Smith Aland.
Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Richard C Jensen. Pall bearers were John Stephens, Kem Loveday, Andy Jorgensen, John Schmid, James Whinham and Thomas G Lewis. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
