LIBERTY RESIDENT DIES ON TUESDAY
James Alfred Hymas, 83, a long time resident of Liberty, died Tuesday morning in the Caribou County Hospital in Soda Springs following a lingering illness. Mr. Hymas was born on July 16, 1875 in Hyde Park Utah, the son of James and Sarah Cornelia Evans Hymas and moved to Liberty as a child. He was married to Ella Matthews on April 7, 1904 in the Salt Lake City temple.
An active member of the LDS Church, he fulfilled a mission to California from 1905 to 1907, served 18 years as a counselor to Bishop William R Morgan of the Liberty ward, was president of the YMMIA and ward organist and chorister and was also chairman of the stake genealogical society and a member of the stake Sunday School board. Mr. Hymas was active in civic affairs, a promoter of the Black and White Days in Liberty and served as a school trustee for many years.
He is survived by his wife; two sons Lane E Hymas of Liberty and Glen M Hymas of Raymond; three daughters Eva Hymas of Liberty, Mrs. Roscoe (Lucile) Evans of Montpelier and Mrs. Gus (Virginia) Bergholm of Liberty; a foster son Harold Pugmire of Liberty; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers Lyman Hymas of Liberty and Sim Hymas of Grace; one sister Mrs. Art Dore of Venice California. Three children preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 21 at 1 pm in the Liberty ward chapel with the Matthews Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
