FISH HAVEN RESIDENT DIES

 

Dr. Harkless Carl Curless, 85 died Wednesday at his home in Fish Haven.  The son of Harkless and Unity Birdsell Curless, he was born November 24, 1870 at Loraine Illinois.  Dr. Curless received his MD degree from the medical school, Drake university, Des Moines in 1896.  Dr. Curless and Charlotte Wooten were married March 4, 1897 at Indianola, Iowa.  The family moved to Fish Haven in 1908 where they have since resided.  Dr. Curless practiced medicine in Iowa, but did not continue in his profession after coming to Bear Lake county.

Dr. Curless was a member of the Masonic Lodge at St Charles Iowa and the Modern Woodmen.  He belonged to the Christian Church.  He was an ardent hunter and fisherman and wrote many volumes of poetry.

A son, Joseph C Curless, veteran of both World Wars preceded him in death in 1945.  Besides his widow survivors are two sons, Eugene D Curless of Seattle, and George H Curless of Fish Haven; and also four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the Matthews Mortuary.
