L E Halbert Accident
The Montpelier Examiner, July 30, 1909
NARROW ESCAPE OF AUTOMOBILE PART
While returning from the lake Sunday night in his automobile, L E Halbert and wife, Mrs. C E Hawyer, Miss Bessie Laying and Owen Vanetta had a narrow escape from serious injury by the over turning of the car.
They had just passed through Paris when a terrible windstorm came up. They continued their journey homeward, but owing to the extreme darkness, Mr. Halbert ran his automobile at the slowest speed possible. By so doing he managed to keep on the road, despite the dust which completely enveloped them, until within a short distance of Ovid, when the car left the road just as it reached a culvert and turned over on its side.
That every member of the party escaped without even a scratch and that the car was not damaged in the least, is due soley to the fact that the car was "just creeping along".
