Groo & Toomer's Garage
The Montpelier Examiner, 13 July 1917
For a few minutes last Monday morning there was sure some
excitement in front of Groo & Toomer's Garage. It was caused by the
gasoline igniting while the tank in a car was being filled. Two young men
from Logan drove up to the garage to get a supply of gasoline. While the
tank was being filled one of the young men struck a match for the purpose of
lighting his pipe.
In some manner the gasoline became ignited. The car caught fire immediately. For about two minutes it looked as though the car was doomed. Fortunately there were two hand fire extinguishers in the garage. they were quickly put to use and they did effective work. Luckily no one was hurt. the car was only damaged to the extend of requiring a new top.
It is safe to bet that the young man will never again attempt to light his pipe while having the tank in his car filled with gasoline.
