RITES HELD


Grant Stucki Rich was born January 19, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Daniel C & Annie Stucki. He married Darlene Naisbitt June 6, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Grant attended public schools in Paris, graduating from Fielding High School in 1936. From 1938 to 1942 he studied at Utah State University, graduating with a degree in Agricultural Economics. In following years he took many correspondence and extension courses particularly in the field of education.

Following graduation from the University, Mr. Rich was employed as a rating examiner for the Civil Service Board. In October 1943, he was stricken with polio. For three months he was confined to an iron lung at Salt Lake General Hospital. After a gallant struggle he was able to return to his parents home in Paris, but was paralyzed from the neck to his toes. In March 1944, he was taken by his wife to the National Foundation, Warm Springs, Ga. where he spent a year under intensive treatment. He returned to Paris in 1945.

In 1947 he began teaching at Emerson School where he remained for 18 years as math and science teacher. His cheerfulness and fortitude through the years inspired his students and all who knew him. Mr. Rich was active in civic and church affairs, serving on committees for the Bear Lake Rangers and the local chapter of the Idaho Education Association. He was twice honored by Fielding High School with awards for his support of the Future Farmers of America and the athletic department. He held various positions in the LDS Church, serving as ward clerk in the Paris First Ward for the past six years.  At the time of his death he was a member of the High Priest Quorum.

Mr. Rich is survived by the widow; sons, Daniel C and Larry G both of Logan, Utah; a daughter Jolene of the family home in Paris; his mother; and brothers and sisters, A M Rich, Portland Ore. Ralph Rich, Mrs. Russell (Jane) Athay, Mrs. Clifford (Beth) Sizemore and Mrs. Lloyd (Gwen) Passey, all of Paris; Mrs. John (Virginia) Ballantyne and Mrs. Marion (Diane) Pearce if Mesa Ariz. and Mrs. Keith (Afton) of Bountiful Utah.

Funeral rites were conducted Saturday, Sept 3, at 1 pm at the Paris Ward Chapel. The prayer in the home was offered by Raymond Naisbitt. The opening prayer was given by Bishop william J Rich; song by Anne Hackley, Jane Matthews, Rollo Nye and John Spencer accompanied by Lenora Stucki; obituary and remarks by Bishop John W Spencer; vocal solo by Max Haddock; speaker Bishop Glen P Ward and an organ solo by Leonora Stucki.

The second speaker was Leon Howell; followed by a mixed quartet. The closing prayer was delivered by Bishop Amos B Hulme. Pallbearers were Clifford Sizemore, John Ballantyne, Ralph Rich, Eugene Stucki, Lloyd Passey and Keith Chase.

Floral arrangements and lunch for the family were directed by the First Ward Relief Society.
