FUNERAL SERVICES ARE HELD IN IDAHO FALLS
Golden Gilbert Holmes, 59, died March 5th in a hospital at Idaho Falls following an illness of four years. Mr. Holmes was born July 29, 1896 in Montpelier. Following his schooling at Montpelier, he was employed at the Burgoyne Hotel. He was married to Ortella Stocks of Afton, February 14, 1918. Mrs. Holmes died in 1925 and in that year Mr. Holmes moved to Idaho Falls where he opened and ran the Eleanore Hotel for the late Fred Chapin.
In 1928 he left the hotel business to attend the Los Angeles barber college and on graduation returned to Idaho Falls where he worked at barbering and later opened his own shop. On January 15, 1932 he and Sarah Weaver of Idaho Falls were married. His health forced him to give up the barber trade and the couple moved to a small acreage at Menan. In 1937 when Mr. Chapin opened the Rogers Hotel, Mr. Holmes was employed as maintenance engineer until March 3, 1952 when his health again forced him to retire. He was a member of the LDS Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne from his first marriage. Surviving are his widow, a son DeOrr Holmes of Mountain View, California, from his first marriage and mother, Catherine Holmes Wright of Montpelier and the following daughters Mrs. William (Mildred) Kearney of San Diego, Mrs. Jess (Margaret) Graham and Mrs. William (Madeline) Sullivan both of Idaho Falls. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters; Oliver W Holmes and Weston Wright of Montpelier, Vernon Holmes of Idaho Falls and Mrs. S W (Pricilla) Gleim of Glendale, California; and twelve grandchildren.
Services were held at 10 am March 8th in the Buck Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Milton Romrell officiating. The invocation was by William C Lords; hymn Mrs. Wilson Weaver, Samuel C Hall and Mrs. Conover Wright; remarks Bishop Romrell; speaker Mr. Hall, hymn, trio; benediction Conover Wright.
Pall bearers were Orville Mathewson, Russell
Maron, Dee Hargrove, Jack Whitehead, Peter Denison and Lew Bradford.
Concluding services and interment were at the Montpelier cemetery in the
afternoon where the dedicatory prayer was offered by Oliver W Holmes.
