RITES HELD FOR MRS. ARTHUR BURKE
Mrs. Gertrude E Burke, 67, died at her home in Pocatello Friday after a long illness. Mrs. Burke was a long time resident of Montpelier and lived here with her husband until his retirement as a Union Pacific engineer several years ago. They moved to Pocatello in 1951.
She was born November 27, 1887 in Garden City Utah, the daughter of William L and Alice Gordon Pugmire. She was married to Arthur M Burke on December 5, 1906 at Paris. Mrs. Burke was a member of the LDS Church, Women's Benefit association and the Grand International Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Wayne Burke of Pocatello and Allan Burke of San Diego; three grandchildren and three brothers, Nello Pugmire of Shasta California; L C Pugmire of Salt Lake City, and Herbert Pugmire of Pocatello. Services were held at 11 am Monday in the Montpelier Fourth Ward chapel with Bishop K V Hansen conducting.
The invocation was by Fred Bartlome. Following was a vocal solo "In The Garden" Mrs. Reed Lowe, accompanied by Mrs. Lester Armatage; speaker Walter Buhler; vocal duet "Hold Thou My Hand Dear Lord" Mrs. Lowe and Max Haddock; speaker Sidney E Burgoyne; vocal solo "The Old Rugged Cross" Mr. Haddock; benediction Joseph Einzinger. The organ prelude and postlude were played by Judy Ann Knutti. Bishop Hansen gave the prayer at the mortuary.
Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by A O Hayward. Pall bearers were Vernon Wilcox, Mr. Hayward, Hans Larsen, J C Moore, Kem Loveday and L W Tanner. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
