DEATH OCCURS ON SATURDAY
George Samuel Tibbitts, 79, of Montpelier, died in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Saturday. Mr. Tibbitts had been in ill health for some time and two weeks ago fell and broke his hip requiring surgery in a Pocatello hospital. He then returned to the hospital here. Mr. Tibbitts was a resident of Montpelier for 46 years.
Mr. Tibbitts was born on December 9, 1878 in Providence Utah. He married Lenore Brown on May 20, 1903 in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Tibbitts came to Montpelier in 1912 as an employee of the Union Pacific railroad. He retired in June 1946 as a car inspector.
An active member of the LDS Church he fulfilled two missions 1903-06 in the Society Islands in the South Seas and 1946-48, East South Central States. He was a member of the First ward bishopric for 20 years, six in the capacity of bishop. He was a member of the high priest quorum at the time of his death.
Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Douglas Tibbitts of Woodland, California and Owen Tibbitts of Hemet, California; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Newman of Denver and Mrs. Phil (Evelyn) Winterholler of Seattle; two sisters LaVern and Veda Tibbitts both of Logan; two brothers Ira and Elmer Tibbitts both of Providence, Utah; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were held at 10:30 am Tuesday in the Third Fifth ward chapel with Counselor Philip Hulme conducting. The prayer at the mortuary was by James Oakey. Prelude was played by Mrs. Philip Hulme; opening prayer Clarence Swensen; obituary Philip Hulme; song "Oh My Father" male quartet comprised of Floyd Weed, Winslow Swensen, Max Hadock and Philip Hulme; speaker Walter A Hunzeker; song "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go Dear Lord" Max Haddock; speaker Royal D Clark; song "The Perfect Day" Mrs. Walter Hunzeker; prayer William Trussell; postlude music.
Burial was at Providence under the direction of
the Matthews Mortuary. The grave was dedicated by Roy Theurer of Logan.
Pall bearers were Douglas Tibbitts, Owen Tibbitts, Wayne Newman, C R Williamson,
Michael Tibbitts and LaVar B Nield.
