George Johnson
The Montpelier Examiner, February 14, 1913
Mr. Peterson, the well drilling man, reports that he struck a
flow of natural gas in the well he is sinking on George Johnson's place near
Ovid. The flow was struck at about 190 feet depth and while not very
strong yet there was sufficient to make a small flame.
As a 10 foot vein of coal was encountered at 165 feet at Liberty, it is altogether probable that there is an abundance of gas to be had at greater depths.
