Dr. George F Ashley, prominent Montpelier physician and surgeon, died on Saturday morning at eight am at his home in this city, the cause of death being cerebral hemorrhage. The doctor had been in failing health for the past few months. Dr. Ashley was sixty-two years old and was born in Tewkesbury, England, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Ashley of Paris and Montpelier. He came to America with his parents when a baby.

He was a graduate of Fielding Academy in Paris, Barnes Medical College in St Louis, Missouri and Tulane Medical College in New Orleans. He also spent a number of years at the Mayo Brothers clinic in Rochester. Dr. Ashley located in Montpelier in 1912 and since that time has been prominently identified in civic and political affairs in Montpelier and southeastern Idaho.

He served on term as Mayor of Montpelier and had been a member of the Board of Education, Independent school district No 1 for about twenty years. He had acted at various times as city and county physician, holding the latter position at the time of his death. He also served several times as county chairman of the Republican party. Several years after coming to Montpelier, Dr. Ashley built the Montpelier hospital, which he had since operated. He was also owner of the Burgoyne Pharmacy.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Kearl Ashley, one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Mattson of Richfield, Utah, and one son, Gordon Ashley, student at Idaho Southern in Pocatello. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. R L Robison of Salt Lake City, one brother, A J Ashley of Montpelier and a granddaughter, Marilyn Mattson of Richfield.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Montpelier Stake tabernacle, which was filled to capacity and the business houses were closed during the hours of the service. The services opened at 2 pm and the following program was conducted;

Song by choir "God Moves in a Mysterious Way"; opening prayer, Seth Kunz; remarks Bishop B E Mumford; vocal solo "I Am A Pilgrim" Mrs. Ed Grosjean; address Dr. H H King; address Sidney Burgoyne; song by Lawrence Lee "A Perfect Day"; address by James Bruce; song by choir "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go"; Resolutions of Respect from the Rotary Club were read by A A Vealey; address Morris Low; reading "Crossing the Bar" by Mrs. Jessie Kunz; chorus of high school students under direction of W R Baker "Going Home"; benediction Standley Rich.

Interment was made in the Montpelier cemetery where the grave dedication was offered by Carvel Mattson. Pall bearers included Ellis Straw, Dr. C O Moore, Dr. L P Gaertner, Matt Maloney, T N Sneddon and Ellis Taylor.
