Paris Post, Thursday, 6 January 1921, page 1
The funeral services over the remains of Fred Wilks, 77 years of age, who died suddenly last Thursday morning were held in Bloomington chapel Sunday afternoon at 1 pm and interment was made in the Bloomington cemetery. The deceased who had suffered with asthma for several years was in apparently good helath the few days previous to his death.
He walked to Paris from Bloomington Monday, a distance of three miles and paid his taxes for last year, consequently his sudden demise came as a surprise to the people here. Fred Wilks was born in Linvisville, Essex, England, December 12, 1843. He embraced the faith of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 25 years old and came to America a few years later making his temporary home in Wyoming where he worked in the coal mines driving teams. He returned to England again with his wife and three children and operated a confectionery store. The second time he came to America and finally made his home in Bloomington where he has farmed and run a truck garden until his death.
He was a gardener at the Linville castle in England and his experience fitted him well in his work here. For twelve years he acted as janitor for the Bloomington school. A wife and four children mourn the loss of the deceased, who are Mrs. Joshua Jarvis, Mrs. Wm W Thornock of Bloomington, Frank Wilks of Nephi Utah and J H Wilks of The Paris Harness Co of Paris.
