KILLED IN ACTION IN GERMANY

 

First Lieutenant Franklyn B Pugmire 24, was killed in action in Germany, February 28, according to word received Monday by his parents Mr. and Mrs. J R Pugmire.  Lieutenant Pugmire was born December 23, 1920 in Paris Idaho.  He graduated from the Logan senior high school and attended Utah State Agricultural college where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Following his sophomore year he filled an LDS mission to the New England states.  During the last eight months of his mission he served as president of the Vermont New Hampshire conference. On returning home he enlisted in the US Army Reserved in September 1942.  He remained at the USAC until April 1943 when he was transferred to Camp Callan California, where he remained until September when he was again assigned to the USAC.

In December 1943 he was sent to officers candidate school at Camp Davis, North Carolina and in April 1944 was commissioned a second lieutenant in the infantry. He was stationed first at Fort Benning Georgia and later transferred to Camp Howze Texas.  While on leave he married the former Donna MacKay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H M Mackay of Murray Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple October 5, 1944.  The young couple were at Camp Howze Texas until the middle of November when Lt. Pugmire was ordered to a port of embarkation.  He visited with his famiy here en route to Fort Meade, Maryland.  Before sailing he was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant.  He arrived in Belgium on Christmas day and a short time later was assigned to the First Army on the German front.

In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by four sisters; Mrs. Robert J Evans of Pullman Washington; Mrs. G B Crawford of Paris; Ruth Pugmire of Burley and Dorothy Jean Pugmire S 1/c of the WAVES, stationed at San Diego.
