LONG TIME PARIS RESIDENT DIES

 

Frank Osborne Nye, 84, of Paris died Saturday in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital, following a lingering illness. He was born July 24, 1872 at Providence, Utah, the son of James and Elizabeth Smith Nye.  Mr. Nye and Catherine Collings Maughan were married on September 15, 1897 in the LDS Temple in Logan, and six sons and one daughter were born to the union.  He fulfilled a mission for the LDS Church in California in 1897-99.  The family moved to Cache Valley early in 1900 and returned to Paris in April 1920.

Mr. Nye was active in the Paris First ward serving in stake and ward capacities as High Priest and was faithful in helping to build the new ward chapel.  His first wife died in June 1923.  He married Arstanie Astle in the Logan Temple on October 2, 1929 and one son was born to them.

Survivors include his widow of Paris and children; Rollo M Nye, Ephraim W Nye and Ernest E Nye all of Paris; Elva Smith and Ora K Nye both of Evanston, Wyoming; Frank W Nye of Magna Utah, Orval J Nye of Logan and Roy A Nye of Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services were held at 1 pm Wednesday in the Paris First Ward chapel with Bishop M B Athay conducting.  The opening song "Jesus Lover of My Soul" was by a quartet comprised of E W Stucki, John Spencer, Yvonne Palmer and Nora B Stephens; invocation Fred J Price; remarks Bishop Athay; vocal duet "Beyond The Sunset" John Spencer and Darlene Rich accompanied by Jane Matthews; speaker Cyril Budge, organ solo "Oh My Father" Jane Matthews; speaker Amos B Hulme; song "God Be With You Til We Meet Again" benediction Emily Grandy; prelude and postlude were played by Jane Matthews.

Interment was in the Paris cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Weldon Nye.  Pall bearers were Ernest, Willard, James, Rollo, Roy and Ora Nye, sons of the deceased.  The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
