Another old time resident and well known citizen was called last week when Franklin E Smedley, Dingle's only merchant for the past thirty-five years, died at his home in that town. His passing was on Friday after a long illness.

Besides his widow, he is survived by the following children; Alfred Smedley of this city, William E Smedley of California, and Edward Smedley and Mrs. Lelie both of Dingle. Funeral services were held in the Dingle chapel on Monday and were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends from all over the county, as well as outside points. Interment was in his home town cemetery, under the direction of the Williams mortuary.

Mr. Smedley was born in Delaware, October 23, 1861m and early in life moved west, settling first in Paris. Later he opened a store in Dingle. He was married to Frances Sparks in 1885. In earlier yeas Mr. Smedley was active in politics in this county and had been a candidate for commissioner once or twice on the Democratic ticket. He was held in high esteem by his neighbors and was an upright and honored citizen.
