MILITARY RITES HELD FOR VETERAN
Francis Lorenzo Bacon, 47, died November 22 at Brigham City on a stop over while en route from San Francisco to his home in Georgetown. Mr. Bacon, a career soldier in the U S Army, had just received a medical discharge with the rank of sergeant prior to his leaving San Francisco.
The son of Lorenzo and Theressa Dunn Bacon, he was born April 8, 1909 at Georgetown. A holder of several decorations Mr. Bacon served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II and also saw action in the early part of the Korean War. He was a member of the LDS Church.
Mr. Bacon was the holder of the Croix de Guerre with Palm, European campaign ribbon with spearhead and three battle stars, Pacific, American Theatre, Good Conduct, National Defense and German Occupation ribbons. He also was awarded the Korean campaign ribbon with two silver battle stars.
He is survived by three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Melvin J Clark of Georgetown, Mrs. Leon D Rogers of Ogden, Leonard Bacon of Heber City, Utah and Mrs. Reuben Waters of Blackfoot. Services were held at 1 pm Monday in the Georgetown ward chapel with Counselor Lloyd Smith conducting. The opening song "Shall We Meet Beyond the River" was by the choir; invocation Jay Peterson; song :Nearer Dear Savior To Thee" choir; remarks Counselor Smith; speaker Walter E Clark; vocal trio "The End of a Perfect Day" Madge Sorenson, Jean Johnson and Marion Foss, accompanied by Lillis Johnson; speaker Rao Dunford; song "Abide With Me 'Tis Eventide" choir; benediction Russell Bee.
Interment was in the Georgetown cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Verlain Larsen. Military rites were conducted by Post 63 American Legion with Eugene J Grimes acting as sergeant at arms. The firing squad consisted of Durwood Perkins, Glen Talbot and Mr. Grimes; color guard Orson Bergreen and Lee Tufts. Phil Perkins sounded taps on the bugle. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
