DEATH
Eugene Eschler of Raymond, died at the Lynn Hospital in this city
last Monday afternoon from injuries received last Friday morning, while at work
with a horse power threshing outfit at the rand of Seldon Hart in Raymond. Mr.
Eschler was driving the horses on the power, when the tumbling rod slipped out
of place. He got off the platform and attempted to adjust the rod without
stopping the machine, when his coat caught on the tumbling rod and he was hurled
around several times before the horses could be stopped, his body striking the
ground each time with great force.
Mr. Eschler was brought to the hospital as quickly as possible after the accident happened. An examination showed that in addition to his body being frightfully bruised, both legs were broken, the left one being broken in two places between the thigh and knee and the bones badly splintered.
Realizing that the operation of setting the broken bones was an intricate one, Dr. Lynn summoned Dr. Baldwin, a Salt Lake specialist, to assist him. He was unable to reach her until Monday morning and the operation of setting and wiring together the broken and splintered bones was successfully performed. However, the shock sustained from the accident was so great that the young man was unable to rally and death resulted.
Deceased was 25 years of age and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. G Escher of Raymond. He was a young man who was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his untimely death brought great sorrow not only to his parents but to his many friends. His funeral services were held from the meeting house in Raymond yesterdy morning at 11 am.
