Ellen Sarah and John Aland

Ellen Sarah Harding was born 14 Apr 1811 in Ramsburg England to William Harding and Martha Watts.  She married John Sparrow Aland 12 Nov 1832 in Yatton England. He was born 11 Oct 1803 in Corsham England, the son of Mary and Edward Aland. Ellen joined the LDS Church but her husband was not converted.  She obtained passage on the ship Golconda and left England 4 Feb 1854 with all her living children.  The oldest daughter, Elizabeth, died at St Louis Missouri, while crossing the plains in 1854.  The family first settled in Willard Utah and later moved to Bloomington in 1864.

After settling in Bloomington, her youngest son, Francis, age 21, was killed accidentally while wrestling with another boy on the bank of the canal by the cemetery entrance.  Ellen Sarah was an immaculate housekeeper and an excellent homemaker.  her small three room house was always in perfect order.  In her kitchen was an enclosed well under the floor with a windlass to draw up the water.

John Sparrow Aland died 5 Nov 1875 in Edington England.  Ellen Sarah Aland died 18 May 1880 and was buried in the Bloomington Cemetery.
